A huge disaster was avoided when the firefighters managed to put out a fire caused by the explosion of a truck involved in an accident on Yas Island, near a petrol station.
At least a dozen fire trucks and police vehicles rushed to the site on Monday at 5.15pm, dangerously close to the Adnoc petrol station in Abu Dhabi towards Dubai Yas highway.
At the time of printing, no details or statement were available from the Abu Dhabi Police about the accident.
The traffic slowed down to a near stop for almost a kilometre before the scene of the explosion. For at least 300 metres, small car parts and shattered glass spread all over the road, indicating the truck collided with another vehicle before bursting into flames.
As all five lanes of the highway were closed around the accident area, traffic was diverted through the petrol station.
