Two Emirati brothers were killed in a traffic accident on Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai on last Tuesday, said a police official on Monday.
The car driven by one of the brothers, Haitham Al Zaabi (25), crashed into a heavy truck, killing him and his brother Mohammed on the spot. Both the brothers were travelling to their workplace in Abu Dhabi from Ras Al Khaimah. A friend of the brothers, who was also travelling with them suffered serious injuries in the accident.
According to the family of the deceased, they were informed by the Dubai Police about the tragedy only on Thursday, 36 hours after they started their search to find the brothers.
"The police informed us on Thursday around 11am that Haitham and Mohammed had died on the spot as their cars collided with a heavy truck," said relatives of the brothers.
The accident took place in the direction of Abu Dhabi when Haitham lost control over his vehicle and crashed into the truck and then the road barriers, according to sources from the Dubai Police.
Major Abdullah Bishoa, head of land rescue section at the Dubai Police, said that the police used hydraulic cutters to remove the body of one of the brothers. Due to the impact of the crash, the car was fully damaged and went under the truck. Both the brothers were sitting in the front seat of the car, said Major Bishoa, adding that the other person, who was sitting in the rear seat was shifted to a hospital by the Air Wing of the Dubai Police.
After legal procedures, the family received the bodies of the siblings and the funeral was conducted in Ras Al Khaimah.
