The traffic patrols soon rushed to the accident site and the ambulance team and units of serious accidents and the civil defence departments participated in the rescue operation.
Lt. Col. Ahmed Al Zayodi, head of the grievous accidents section at the Department of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police, said excessive speed caused the vehicle to swerve and hit the radar post, killing the driver and his companion on the spot. The injured was rushed to the Shaikh Zayed Military Hospital.
He added that the vehicle involved in the accident was pulling a trailer carrying a motorcycle, indicating that the initial investigation has shown that the speed device in the vehicle was manipulated to increase the speed.
Al Zayodi called on motorists to heed specified speed limits, especially vehicles that drag trailers.
