SHARJAH - Two office boys of a medical fitness testing laboratory were recently arrested by Sharjah Police for allegedly tampering with the X-ray report of an Iraqi engineer to conceal that fact that he suffered from tuberculosis.
The two office boys, one a 28-year-old Bangladeshi and another a 30-year-old Indian Raju, allegedly accepted a bribe of Dh200 each from the Iraqi engineer who arrived in Sharjah to work for a contracting company.
A police source said the engineer knew about his disease and was scared that his chest X-ray would reveal his condition. Hence he struck a deal with the two office boys, who managed to access the password of the lab’s computer system. They then reportedly tampered with the Iraqi’s X-ray report from positive to negative.
However, a woman technician at the lab detected the tampering and police were informed. The Iraqi visitor was detained and during questioning, he confessed that he had bribed the office boys to tamper with the report.
He said he had planned to seek medical treatment after obtaining the residence visa.
The police source said the Iraqi has been lodged in solitary confinement and is being given medical treatment.
All three will be referred to the Public Prosecution soon.
