The opening of Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Street which leads to King Abdulaziz Street brings about the cancellation of Route 10 and the revamp of Route 01 in line with commuters’ proposals.

Bus route 01 earlier used to connect Al Nahda area with the Sharjah International Airport.

“Starting today, bus route 01 will run from Al Rolla square in the direction of the 4th Industrial Street, passing through Al Zahra Street, Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Street, Sharjah Ring Road, 5th Industrial Square or National Paints roundabout and Meliha Street,” said Rabaa Al Marzouqi, Head of Public Transport Franchise Section.

Bus route10, which used to start from Al Etihad station to end at Wasit station, passing through Al Rolla Square, Al Zahra Street, King Faisal Street, King Abdulaziz Street, Independence Street, 1st Industrial Street, Al Khan Street, 2nd Industrial Street and Al Uruba Sharq134, has been revoked.

Taking passengers’ interests into consideration, Sharjah Transport has provided alternative routes to bus route10 which was launched this January. “Al Nahda area is now covered by two lines: bus route8 which connects Al Etihad and Al Nahda stations and bus route5 which connects Al Nahda and Al Sharq stations,” she said.

Al Khan passengers may now take bus route3 which starts from Al Rolla Square in the direction of the 5th Industrial Square or National Paints roundabout. “Bus route14, which connects Al Sharq and Sharjah International Airport, covers Meliha area while bus route15 from Al Etihad station to Sharjah International Airport, passes through Al Rolla Square, Shaikh Sager bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and Sharjah University City road,” Marzouqi said.

More bus routes pass through the same roads which bus route10 used to cover. “King Faisal direction is covered by bus route2, starting from Khalid Port station and ending at Al Sharq station, apart from bus routes 3 and 14.”

Marzouqi added that the 1st Industrial Street is covered by bus route5 while Al Khan and 2nd Industrial streets are covered by bus route3. As for Wasit Street, it is covered by bus route12 which connects Al Rolla Street and the 5th Industrial Square.

“More changes will be introduced to the public bus routes within Sharjah city in view of road works, operational reports and passengers’ suggestions and demands.”
