UAE Camel Racing Association bans doping camels

ABU DHABI - Racing camel owners may not, by any means, use any performance-enhancing drugs or narcotic drugs, whether natural or synthesized, in their racing camels, according to a new resolution by the UAE Camel Racing Association.

Penalties stipulated by Resolution No.1/2013 for violations of the total ban of doping include the cancellation of scores by the doped camel, forfeiture of any prizes won by the owner, in addition to a one-year suspension for the doped camel. In case of a repeat, all camels owned by the violator will be suspended for one year in addition to publicizing the penalty on placards at racecourses.

The new ban by the Association which is chaired by Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, is aimed at preserving camels as a pillar of the UAE heritage.
