An essential travel document to Filipino expats not only in the UAE but throughout the world, the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) will no longer be used. This information was revealed by Labour Secretary Silvestre Bello III in a live commentary with Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
In the live video, which is in Filipino, Bello said that the OEC will be replaced by the I-DOLE. The I-DOLE is an identification card that will be issued by the Department of Labor and Employment. In translation Bello said: 'When you have that ID, that will be the substitute for the OEC'. According to GMA News, Filipinos no longer need to apply for an OEC by the end of July.
This announcement is important for Filipino expats (OFWs) as many flock to consulates in their country of deployment to seek an OEC. In Dubai, getting an OEC costs Dh110 for the initial application.
Bello also added that Filipinos need not worry about a new set of fees. He adds in the video: 'All OFW's will get the ID. It's free and will not cost Filipino migrants anything.' Watch the complete video below.
