Dubai - Acting on the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Ahmad bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), on Sunday approved the inaugural UAE National Sports Day.
The event which will be organised under the theme "UAE Brings Us Together" will coincide with the nation's 44th national day celebrations on December 2. The approval came during a meeting chaired by Shaikh Ahmad. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development; Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health, Chairman of the Board of General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and First Deputy Chairman of the NOC; Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education; and a number of senior officials.
All government department and the private sector organisations will participate in the event.
Shaikh Ahmad stressed the importance of ensuring the success of the national social initiative launched by Shaikh Mohammed. He praised the leadership for extending full support to sports. He noted that the theme of the sports event reflects Shaikh Mohammed's vision for a healthy and happy life for people.
