New research suggests that UAE residents are among the most understanding and emotionally reactive towards others' experience, scoring high on empathy and pro-social behaviour.
The UAE has been ranked among the world's most empathetic nations, according to a new report published this month in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology.
The first-of-its-kind study that ranks nations by empathy puts the UAE among the Top 5 most Empathetic Nations among 63 nations studies, ahead of the US (#7) and Kuwait (#10).
Ecuador has been ranked the world's most empathetic country, followed by Saudi Arabia, Peru, Denmark and the UAE.
William Chopik, lead author of the study, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University (MSU), says lack of global empathy is growing.
"People are struggling more than ever to form meaningful close relationships," he said in a news release by MSU.
Chopik said he was surprised that three countries from the Middle East - Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait - ranked so highly in empathy.

#2 Saudi Arabia
#3 Peru
#4 Denmark
#5 UAE
#6 Korea
