The open lecture programme of the 20th Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) concluded on Sunday with a talk on 'Happiness Secrets' in the presence of Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, UAE's Minister of State for Happiness.
Two more lectures are, however, scheduled on June 13 and 14 at the Dubai Women's Association, Abu Hail area, while the lecture programme for foreign communities will be held from June 16-23 at 10.30pm at the Indian Academic School, Muhaisana-4.
Saudi scholar Shaikh Saad Ateeg Alateeg, who is also an educational expert with the Saudi Ministry of Education, said in his lecture that the ultimate happiness in life and the Hereafter is in showing complete obedience to Almighty Allah.
Life, he added, is just a passage to the real life and happiness. "A Muslim, with a single prayer of prostration alone late at night, can cure himself or herself from all stress, grief and anxiety."
A true Muslim loves and fears Almighty Allah more than anything else as advised by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) who affirmed that one's faith shall remain incomplete until he or she loves Allah and His messenger more than himself, his parents, children and all mankind, he explained. "One can truly love Allah by feeling afraid of and appealing to Him."
He said happiness is also in showing gratitude to parents, be they alive or dead. "Almighty Allah has instructed children to show absolute submissiveness, obedience and mercy to them."
Contentment is not only an exhaustible treasure but also a big secret for happiness. "Never envy others' blessing, pardon, relieve and please them, and give them charity," he said, referring to a righteous man who found happiness in giving money rather than treasuring it up.
Having a pious wife and obedient children is another reason for happiness, Shaikh Ateeg underlined. "Muslims pray Almighty Allah as in Verse 25/74 of the Quran: (Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes)."
Dr Maher Sufi will conclude the women-only lecture programme at the Dubai Women's Association on Tuesday with a preaching on some of the scientific miracles in the Holy Quran.
The International Quran Competition, the main branch of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, will start on Monday with eight competitors who are qualified to sit the final tests after clearing the initial examinations.
