A report in the Arabic daily Al Khaleej in fact has disclosed that as many as 46 schools in Dubai and Northern Emirates are old and must be replaced. There is no way that the Ministry of Education can avoid action in this matter particularly if the buildings are in such a state that they could endanger the lives of students.

The Ministry should accord top priority to chalking out a plan to replace these buildings especially in the light of reports that painting work has failed to hide the cracks in these structures and there are recurring faults in the power line as a result of negligence. Other manifestations of neglect in the buildings are the leakages when it rains, besides the tight fit of students in tiny classrooms.
