Uri attack: Gujarati businessman to fund kids' education

A Gujarat businessman has offered to sponsor the education of children of all 18 Uri soldiers.

The children of the Indian soldiers killed in the Uri attack now have a 'godfather' watching out for them. A Gujarati businessman has offered to sponsor the education of children of all 17 Uri soldiers after he was emotionally moved while watching the young daughter of one of the soldiers on television.
India witnessed an attack in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week that killed at least 17 soldiers after their army base was infiltrated. 
NDTV reports that investigators found that the wire fencing around the headquarters at Uri had been cut in two places. The Indian Defense Minister even went so far as to say that "lapses" may have led to the attack. 
For the family of the soldiers killed, it has been a tragic loss as some of them were the sole breadwinners of their families.
"I saw a girl of our Indian soldier crying on the television saying that her father had told her to study hard and become successful. At that very moment, I decided to sponsor the children of the martyrs killed in Uri attack," Mahesh Savani told the Times of India.
The businessman - who made his fortune in the diamond trade and owns a chain of schools and is in the reality business - has even gone as far as to offer to fund their hostel and accommodation fees.

This is not the first time the businessman has been in the news for an act of charity. 
Mahesh Savani has also been paying for the weddings of fatherless women in the city of Surat for several years.
