US still top destination for foreign students

ABU DHABI — The United States remains the top destination for foreign students seeking higher education, said a US top cultural official.

“In 2005, over 560,000 students from across the world enrolled in American colleges and universities. This proves that the US is still the best as far as college education is concerned,” said Hilary Olsin Windecker, Counsellor for Press and Cultural Affairs at the American Centre for Press and Cultural Affairs in Abu Dhabi.

According to Windecker, the US institutions offer excellent education at affordable prices.

Meanwhile, she announced that an American Education Expo will be held in Abu Dhabi on February 28 at the Beach Rotana Hotel. A two-day Super Expo will also be organised at the Knowledge Village in Dubai starting March 1.

While a student visa seminar will be hosted by a Visa Consulate Officer on the occasion, a Scholarship Fair is also being organised for the benefit of students.

Along with the ability to meet admissions representatives, and a student visa seminar hosted by a Visa Consulate officer, the Expo now hosts a Scholarship Fair.

As they meet admission representatives, students will be able learn about the scholarship opportunities at the US colleges and universities.

The event is supported by the US Department of Commerce and the US Embassy’s Public Affairs Office.

“We ask students to bring copies of their report cards, transcripts, and Tofel scores to the Expo. This will allow the representatives to determine their admission eligibility,” Windecker said.

The events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will open at 5 pm, with the visa seminar starting at 4pm. The day 2 of the Super Expo starts at 4pm at Dubai Knowledge Village.
