A decision to this effect was taken by the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture of Abu Dhabi Municipality and the General Authority for Health Services at a joint meeting held recently.
The decision was taken following a spate of complaints lodged with the two departments that a number of women who frequently visited these parlours and salons contracted infection due to misuse of the apparatus by non-specialist workers.
Female inspectors at the Control Section and the City landscape Division at the capital’s civic service authority have noticed, during their regular visits to women beauty saloons and parlours, that the equipment used has no certificate or permit confirming safety of their use, official sources said.
This prompted the department to hold an urgent meeting with the body concerned to discuss the issues related to this problem in order to reach a decision that serves public interest, the sources said.
A meeting attended by representatives from the Municipality and the General Authority for Medical services was held at the premises of the former on Thursday where the issue was extensively discussed.
Scrutiny
Use of laser equipment would only be confined to medical centres for they are subject to thorough supervision and scrutiny by specialist doctors and experts of the Authority.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality has been conducting inspections of ladies beauty salons and hair dressing parlours from time to time after receiving complaints from the customers who had complained of skin diseases as a result of use of contaminated tools. Such tools were found to have been not fully sterilised, the sources said.
The measure was taken by the Municipality, the sources said, to ensure that the health conditions and standards are strictly followed.
It also aims to ensure that the employees at these parlours adhere to conditions governing practice of the profession.
Clean Uniforms
The employees should also hold valid health cards, wear clean and tidy uniforms as per the rules as well as use sterilised equipment in conformity with the specifications, the sources said.
The department called upon customers of women beauty salons and men hair dressing parlours to immediately report any violation by calling on emergency number 939, designated by the department for receiving public complaints and queries.
