The man allegedly stabbed his brother in the chest and dumped his body in a deserted area in Ajman.
During a police interrogation, the suspect, identified only as S.A., said he tied up the victim, S.M., before stabbing him. Then, with the help of a friend, he disposed of the body.
Police sources quoted S.A. as saying his brother was not in favour of his relationship with an Uzbek woman.
The body of the victim, a businessman based in Dubai, was found 11 days after the crime, wrapped in two blankets in an open area in Al Helaiwa, Ajman. A passerby called in the police.
A five-member police team, headed by Major Abdullah Sais, Head of the CID Section of Ajman Police, is investigating the case.
The police did not find any identification on the victim’s body, prompting them to take fingerprints and match them with the UAE Immigration records, leading to the arrest.
The Ajman Police, in coordination with the Dubai Police, raided the victim’s empty apartment in Al Hamriya, Dubai.
Following a surveillance of the apartment, they arrested a man who tried to enter S.M.’s residence.
The man, who at first gave false information about his relationship with the victim, was later learnt to be S.A.’s friend who allegedly served as an accomplice in the crime.
Further inquiries with S.M.’s friends and acquaintances revealed that he had two brothers - one had already left for Uzbekistan while the other, S.A., was staying in Dubai. The police immediately considered S.A. as a prime suspect in the murder.
Major Sais said that between 2004 and 2006, the number of murder cases in Ajman increased by 12 per cent. He said this rise was in matching with the expanding population in the emirate.
Brigadier General Ali Matroussi, Director-General of the Ajman Police, said the crime investigation has been “complicated and mysterious” because of the lack of identification of the body.
