The Open Day Committee at the Ministry of Labour in Abu Dhabi on Monday received an application from an Arab school teacher for a temporary work permit in order to follow up the case he had filed at the labour court against his present sponsor.
He told the committee that his health card had expired and he was now living on charity from relatives and friends.
However, the panel refused his request as his residency was valid for four months only and he had no
real job offer.
Replying to an explanation from a PRO about the expiry of a labour card of a worker locked in a labour dispute with his sponsor, the committee said that the ministry would impose no fine on the company as the work relationship had ceased to exist because of the case filed.
In another case, the panel rejected documents forwarded by a company to obtain a work permit for a European citizen due to the vague nature of his qualification.
The committee found that a translation mistake was behind the ambiguity of the degree. The committee then asked the PRO to re-translate the papers at one of the accredited translation centres so as to verify the degree and then issue the permit.
