A Class 12 Indian student stabbed his mathematics teacher with a sharp-edged object, causing him life-threatening injuries.
The 17-year-old boy attacked the teacher - Ravinder - after he was pulled up for scoring low marks in maths.
The boy, a student of Hardayal Public School in Haryana's Bahadurgarh, assaulted his teacher multiple times on his head, neck and other body parts.
The entire incident has been captured on CCTV camera. The footage shows Ravinder leaning over some papers in an empty classroom, when the student quietly enters it. He takes out a sharp-edged object from his bag and attacks the teacher from behind.
Ravinder tries his best to resist the student, but in vain. It is only after another teacher - who is present in the corridor - intervenes and stops the student that the violence ends.
But by that time, the damage had been done.
The teacher suffered multiple injuries to his head, Additional SP (Bahadurgarh), Himanshu Garg was quoted as saying in an NDTV report.
In a Hindustan Times report, he said the students have revealed that the teacher had scolded them for securing low marks in the subject in semester exams in the school.
"The teacher had warned the students that he would complain about them to their parents."
Anuradha Yadav, principal of the school, was quoted as saying that Ravinder was sitting in the classroom around 7 in the morning when he was attacked by the student. The boy was trying to flee but teachers caught him and handed him over to the police, she said.
The teacher was rushed to a nearby hospital in a very critical condition.
The attacker - who has been charged with attempted murder - and his friend are in police custody. "The student's friend was apprehended for supplying the weapon," police said.
