Although not a touristy season, Ramadan is the most fitting time to visit the emirates if you want to explore the local flavour of the city.
If in the city during the holy month, here's what your itinerary should include:

1. Enjoy an Iftar feast

Ramadan is the time when the community comes together to enjoy a huge spread in the evenings as everybody gathers to break the fast. After the prayers are offered, many restaurants put out their best spreads to tickle your gastronomical needs. Don't watch your weight but indulge in the delicacies as tents are set up all over the city to give a regional feel.  Don't shy away from accepting an invitation from a local family if they invite you

2. Follow the rules

It is important to practice some caution if you are visiting the emirates during Ramadan.

During the fasting hours in the day (sunrise to sunset) eating, drinking and smoking is strictly prohibited in public places. Don't worry as most restaurants remain open and serve food behind the screen until the sunset. Also, dress modestly as it is the holy month and you would want to blend in the flavour rather than stand out.

3. Visit mosques to soak in the festivities

Being a holy month, many spend their time in prayers and head to the mosques. Join them if you want to understand the religious significance of the Ramadan. Take guided tours to understand the relevance of the fast in today's fast-paced life. Do follow the decorum while visiting these places of worship as a respect to the local culture.
Among our top choices would be the Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai and the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

4. Enjoy Ramadan discounts

Yes it is possible to plan a Dubai visit on a budget - during the Ramadan. As it is not the peak touristy season (also consider the temperature in summers), you can avail the best tourist packages on hotels and travel. While booking the hotels, look out for add-ons if they offer iftar and suhoor meals in their package.

5. Indulge in retail therapy

An annual market featuring global brands across clothing, electronics, jewellery, handicrafts, souvenirs, etc., this 10-day shopping fiesta between June 1 and June 10 will be held at Hall 7 and 8 at World Trade Centre. A visit to this bazaar is a must.
