Mona Mohammed Al Hamady, who suffers from visual weakness, will teach people with special needs.
Dr. Aisha Al Jalahmah, Director of Programmes for People with Special Needs, said Al Hamady had been initially entrusted with the job giving lessons in history, but because of her severe visual weakness, she was unable to use the computer, or reading and writing with special visual aids.
Dr. Al Jalahmah said Al Hamady’s appointment is part of the ministry’s efforts to integrate people with special needs into the mainstream.
Meanwhile, Al Hamady exhibited great optimism over her appointment. Since joining the Emirates University more than 15 years ago she had been aspiring to specialise in some subjects, but the university was not able to help her in her pursuit of specialisation due to her visual impairment, she said. As a result, she enrolled in a university in Cairo to pursue her Master’s degree in UAE history.
