The Court of First Instance found the 31-year-old Indian waiter guilty of premeditatedly killing his Myanmarese girlfriend by pushing her to the ground in a way she injured her head. He then lay on top of her and strangled her.

Court records state that he dumped her body in a manhole.

After killing her he stole Dh300 from her pocket.

The murder took place on February 16 when the defendant who had an affair with the victim met her to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

An Emirati police officer told the prosecutors that he went with the accused to the crime scene in Al Nahda 2.

“He led us to the manhole where the body of the victim was found. He re-enacted the murder. He recounted that an argument erupted between him and the victim over some money she owed him,” the police officer said.

“They had a fight and he pushed her and she fell down. The defendant then strangled her and dragged her body to the manhole,” the officer added.

“While dumping her body it slipped down and the victim’s pants came out onto his hands. He stole Dh300 he found in the pocket.”

The victim’s roommate, a 21-year-old waitress from Myanmar, who works together with the defendant at a restaurant at Dubai International Airport, said she last saw the victim on the morning of February 16.

“She went missing for six days. I heard that she went on a date with the defendant. When I asked him about her he got tense and was sweating and shaking,” the roommate claimed.

She added that the defendant told her that he met the victim on that day and took her to Al Mamzar Park.

“He alleged that he returned her to her accommodation at about 8.30pm. He said he did not know what happened after that,” the witness said.

According to the forensic medicine report, the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition when it was found. It was not possible to determine whether the victim had consumed alcohol or if she had sex with the defendant prior to the murder.
