Waiter killed in freak car crash

RAS AL KHAIMAH — An Ethiopian waiter died on Tuesday when a vehicle driven by an expatriate woman crashed into a restaurant in the Nakheel area around 7.30pm.

According to a source in RAK police, the 43-year-old driver of the car, identified as A.B., accidently drove the vehicle into the restaurant premises and running over the waiter, identified as 53-year-old M.G., who was standing near the counter. The deceased was the only person inside the restaurant at the time of the accident.

The officer said that the accident took place when A.B., while trying to park the car in front of the restaurant, apparently pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes and tore through the glass facade of the restaurant, crushing the waiter.

The officer noted that the woman driver received only minor injuries, but there was a lot of damage caused to the restaurant’s premises and the property inside. The vehicle was also badly damaged.
