Winners of the Dubai Municipality’s “Yalla Walk” campaign that begins on Saturday can literally walk away with these prizes and many others, the civic body announced on Thursday.

The best male and female walkers in the fortnight-long campaign, organised to attract the public to the 23 walking tracks built by the municipality, will get a car each, Obaid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General of the Dubai Municipality for International Affairs and Partnerships Sector said at a Press conference. He said the largest health awareness campaign would be an opportunity to win 12,000 prizes and 40,000 giveaways. The prizes include four annual memberships to Fitness First, monthly memberships and discounted memberships to registered walkers, over 2,200 Fun City children’s vouchers, over 10,000 kids toys, interactive caps, wristbands, sports bags, T-shirts, baseball caps, Al Rawabi goodie bags, soft drinks, and free bone density scanning from Anlene across all participating parks for two weeks. The campaign, which will run from March 5 to 19 across five parks in Dubai, will be kicked off at 5pm on Saturday at Safa Park. It will also be organised at Al Mamzar Park, Al Khawaneej Walking Track, Zabeel Park and Al Barsha Park. The closing ceremony will be held at Al Mamzar Park on March 19 at 5pm.

The campaign is open to all and participating people can walk from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 10pm on these locations. The registration process, which began on Tuesday, will continue until Sunday. To participate in the competition in the campaign, people can register through the website, www.yallawalkcom. On registering the name, the participant will be sent a registration number through e-mail. People can also register directly in the parks where the park staff will assist them, or at the Fitness First clubs.

Participants will be provided a badge and a wrist band containing a barcode, which must be scanned on the device provided at the beginning of each track. The badge should be swiped on the device again when ending the walk. This is for calculating electronically the distance walked by each participant, who can also visit the websiteand enter the page devoted to him or her to get all the details and distances.

The event is supported by Al Rawabi, Fitness First, Emax, Fun City, Al Ahli Driving Centre, Dubai Media Incorporated, Anlene, Roche, Emirates Arthritis Foundation and All As One.
