Sharjah authorities have said at that at least 19 cars were destroyed in the fire, which caused the evacuation of the entire university.  No casualties have been reported.
According to civil defense authorities, the fire is under control and cooling operations have begun.

Lt.Col Sami Khamees AL Naqbi, Director of Civil Protection at Sharjah Civil Defence Department said that they received a call from the security office at university at 11:30 am.
The operation wing immediately dispatched fire fighters from Samnan, Muwailih and headquarters. The teams managed to control the fire from spreading to other 9 vehicles in the same parking lot.
He said that the fire started in one of the car due to technical default and heating, and spread to other cars due to strong wind and flammable materials of the car shades.
The police patrols arrived and cordoned off the area to allow the fighters carry out their duty. Students were evacuated from the area for safety.
The team doused the fire in 45 minutes and conducted cooling operation, and then handed over the site to fire experts of forensic laboratory.
