We will seek safe return of abducted professors from Libya, Modi tells families

Modi receives wives of two Telugu professors kidnapped by Daesh in Libya at Parliament House in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Hopes soared again for Sridevi and Kalyani, wives of abducted Telugu Professors Ch Balram Kishan and T Gopi Krishna respectively, when no less a person than Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave them an assurance on the safe release of their husbands from the hands of Daesh militants in Libya.
The two professors along with two others from Karnataka, all of them working in Sirte University, were abducted by Daesh militants almost a fortnight ago.
While the two teachers from Karnataka were released a week ago, there has been no word about the release of Balram Kishan and Gopi Krishna, who hail from Andhra and Telangana, respectively.
The two families have been in a state of shock since then and have been making appeals for the release of the two teachers at the earliest.
The prime minister met the wives of the two professors at Parliament House in New Delhi and assured them that the federal government was sparing no efforts to secure the release of their husbands. Modi is also reported to have told them that he would instruct the Ministry of External Affairs to speed up the process to bring them back to India.
The wives of the abducted professors also called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who too assured them that her ministry was making all efforts to get the duo released.
The minister explained to Sridevi and Kalyani that since the political situation in Libya was different and the elected government had no power in the area, the Indian government was in talks with the ethnic groups through university officials.
TDP MP C Malla Reddy, representing Malkajigiri Lok Sabha constituency in the city, accompanied the families of the abducted professors to Delhi after getting an appointment with the prime minister.
Earlier, Sridevi and Kalyani also called on Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu. The minister is reported to have called up Sushma Swaraj and requested her to get in touch with the university officials to get an update on the situation.
