Salim Al Tunaiji , Director of inspection section at the municipality said, inspectors during the four-day Eid holiday seized large quantity of weapons such as knives and swords and electric sticks as well as banned dangerous firecrackers from a shop that was licensed to sell home appliances.
The municipality inspectors intensified the inspections in all parts of the emirate targeting shops that sell dangerous firecrackers during Eid holidays.
Since it is known that the demand of the sharp weapons and firecrackers increases among young men and children during the Eid season, the municipality had already warned the shops not to indulge in any such illegal business to avoid tough penalty but some traders refused to pay heed to the warning in order to make profits without considering the safety of children and society members.
Young men and teenagers use these sharp weapons to assault each other and end up with either serious injuries in the hospital or death.
He added, the municipality is continuing its surprise inspections in all parts of the emirate to end such kind of illegal businesses and to enforce rules and regulation that ensure safety and stability of residents and citizens.
The municipality is giving top priority to curb such businesses as such kind of violent activities among teenagers, who use these weapons to assault each other, has increased during the last two years.
