Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers during the holy month of Ramadan at Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque will be led by leading clerics from the region. Among them will be Sheikh Abd El Wali Al Arkani, imam of the King Abdullah Mosque in Jeddah; and Sheikh Saad Said El Ghamedi, former imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in holy city of Madinah.
In addition to them, Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque and Centre will also host a series of other activities through the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation, which is based at the mosque. These include holy Quran memorisation sessions for children and daily religious lectures delivered by Sheikh Dr Fares Al Mustafa after the Asr prayer. There will also be lectures on the virtues of Ramadan available for non-Arabic speakers.
As part of the mosque’s iftar project, which is organised annually, there will be some 1,000 fasting worshippers welcomed daily over the holy month to share food in air-conditioned tents set up in the courtyard. An iftar programme has also been specially designed for non-Muslims in order to familiarise them with the traditions and customs of Ramadan as well as the faith aspects practised during the holy month.
Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque and Centre will also be distributing a fasting calendar and guideline supplement along with a CD of the Holy Quran recitations by the imams of the mosque.
Al Farooq Mosque, which has been acknowledged as one of the UAE’s ‘most beautiful mosques’, can accommodate more than 2,000 worshippers. A large air-conditioned tent with loudspeakers has also been set up to accommodate more worshippers. The mosque expects to receive more than 100,000 worshippers during the holy month.
The Ramadan recital itinerary will be as follows:
• 1-4 Ramadan: Sheikh Abd El Wali Al Arkani, imam of the King Abdullah Mosque in Jeddah;
• 5-9 Ramadan: Sheikh Dr Fares Al Mustafa, imam of Al Farooq Mosque Omar Bin Al Khattab;
• 10-12 Ramadan: Sheikh Saad Said El Ghamedi, former imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah;
• 13-18 Ramadan: Sheikh Saleh Mohammad Al Ansari, imam of the Seif Mosque in Makkah;
•19-23 Ramadan: Sheikh Abd El Majid Al Arkani, imam of Al-Khodr Mosque in Jeddah;
• 24-25 Ramadan: Sheikh Dr Fares Al Mustafa; and
• 26-end of Ramadan: Sheikh Dr Mohammad Abdallah Ghilan, imam of Al Nakheel Mosque and reciter in the Prophet’s Mosque.
