Over 4,000 ecstatic Malayalees flocked to the Sharjah International Book Fair on its sixth day to catch a glimpse of their megastar Mammootty. The crowd went wild as Mammootty arrived at the venue. His fans hooted and clapped with delight as the three-time national award winning actor took to the stage.
"It is a huge honour to be on a stage that attracts the world's renowned authors," he said.
The actor turned author started the session by urging his fans to take up the habit of reading books and extend their knowledge. He also stressed that language has its own importance and it never dies.
He said he was the prime choice for directors for books that are turned into movies. Explaining the reason, he said: "Reading was a habit I started off very early in my life. I have always been fascinated by the characters of famous fictions and even at a younger age. I had tried to personify and act them with dialogues and voice modulation. Down the line, I think that might have helped me as an actor."
A superstar, an avid reader and author of three books encouraged all his fans present at the fair to fall in love with the good books.
On asking how he started with an acting career, he replied instantly that he had decided to become an actor the very first moment he watched a movie in a theater. He shared a few nostalgic memories about his college life and fondly mentioned that he was motivated by his college friends for acting.
He also spoke about his social initiatives like 'Share and Care' and 'Water ATM' but said he believed that such things should not be publicised. He said: "I never take gifts, money from inaugurations and functions. Instead, I ask them to donate it to a charity organisation called Share and Care. Similarly, if I go to functions related to healthcare institutions, I seek free checkups, medications and surgeries for needy people."
The session was one of the biggest sessions so far at the SIBF 2016. He also revealed during the session that he is waiting for a movie together with his son.
Chetna Vaidyanathan, a third year media and communication student at Manipal University, said: "I am glad I got the opportunity to ask him a question. I found him a person with a very clear vision."
Another attendee at the event Shruti Praveen, a housewife from Dubai, said: "I was thrilled throughout to see the greatest actor and it was a wonderful experience. It was commendable on his part to take out time for his fans and connect with them on a different platform."
