Banerjee, who claims to have a track record for making correct predictions for several elections and cricket matches in the past, said the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party would win between 222 and 230 seats in the parliament elections taking place in April.
In Dubai on a short visit, Banerjee told Khaleej Times that AIADMK, a regional party led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha, would grab up to 25 seats and back the BJP in forming the next government led by Modi. According to Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the supremo of Trinamool Congress, will win 33 plus seats while Aam Aadmi Party, led by the maverick Arvind Kejriwal, is expected to win only up to four seats.
Prasad Dixit, an astrologer in Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh state also foresee Modi as the next prime minister of India.
Banerjee did not predict the seats to be won by the ruling Indian National Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi, the party’s vice-president.
In an interview, Rahul said: “I am not a soothsayer but we will do well.”
“Congress is fighting a challenging election and we will win the election,” he said while refusing to hazard a guess about the number of seats the party would get.
Rahul debunked opinion polls, which he had described as a joke, and said the party would do better than the 2009 elections when it had won 206 seats. Predictions before 2004 and 2009 elections also were that the Congress was going to lose and get thrashed, he recalled.
