When Death Snatched him Away Before he could Return for Good

DUBAI - Road accidents claim many innocent lives every day across the country. Yet, the account of one that claimed the life of Taha Abdul Aleem comes as a very heart-rending one.

Aleem was an expatriate living in Sharjah, bread-winner of the family of five. Aleem, who hailed from Egypt, used to travel daily from Sharjah to Dubai, where he was employed as a teacher in a government school. “On his way to Dubai, he took Dubai-By Pass and lost control over the vehicle, which flipped over several times, causing his death on the spot,” his wife Basma said, with tears rolling down her cheeks.

He leaves behind his son Hisham, and Faris, and daughter Reham. Basma wondered if it was his car that swerved or was he using his mobile phone, or another car veered towards him. She said she did not know exactly what had happened.

“After the death of my husband, his colleagues arranged every thing to take the body back home,” she said. Basma said she had accompanied her husband’s body to Egypt, where he was laid to rest.

“I returned to be with my children, so they can complete this academic year here, and will return home for good,” she said.

The investigation report said Aleem had been speeding. “The big problem after my husband’s death was that we had nothing to live on. The insurance company paid nothing on the grounds that it was my husband’s fault,” Basma said.

“Car installments were another problem and the bank demanded the settlement. I have no money to settle the debt.”

Basma said she was waiting to be paid the end of service gratuity of her husband to help her settle the debts and leave for home after the children’s exams are over.
