Dubai residents, Neethu Anthony and her husband - are relieved on their decision to disembark the Emirates flight EK521 before it took off from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Wednesday morning.
The family was all set to get return to Dubai but poor health of Neethu made them change their mind last minute.
Speaking to Khaleej Times from his home in Thiruvananthapuram, Salosh Zakaria who works for the press section of the Dubai Media Corporation accounts department said: "When we completed the immigration procedures, Neethu's health took a turn for the worse. We were all set board the flight when she vomited and felt dizzy. We got in touch with the airport hospital and she was immediately given medical attention, but the medicines failed to bring any relief to her.
"We boarded the flight and I got in touch with our family doctor, who also spoke to cabin crew in-charge. It was decided that it would be better for my wife to disembark. But our son Steve who was clinging to his mother started to cry and so I decided that it is better that all three of us just leave the aircraft.
"If I had been on that flight I would have been unable to run for safety as I was advised for a knee surgery. We decided to disembark the flight considering the seat allocated to us at the tail-end."
Zakaria said he only got to know about the crash landing of the aircraft at Dubai International Airport at around 4:40pm.
"From the airport we headed straight to the hospital to get medical attention for my wife. Once back home, I switched off my phones and went off to bed.  Unable to reach me on my phone, my friends from Dubai and India called my father who woke me up.
"When I switched open my phones messages started flooding in on my whatsapp and there was a video posted. When I saw that I was shocked and at the same time relived.
"If I had been on that flight I would have been unable to run for safety as I was advised for a knee surgery. My wife just could not believe the escape we had. My entire family is quite relived."
