Will Tokyo model ease traffic jams?

TRAFFIC management problems of Dubai Police are expected to increase with all roads leading to schools when the new academic year kicks off on September three. But, this time around we may expect some pleasant surprises as a delegation of the city's police has returned from Tokyo, hopefully with insights about solutions to traffic snarls.

The trillion-dirham question is whether the Tokyo model will work for Dubai.

The coming days will reveal what aces the police have up their sleeve to ease the traffic congestions to which we had become resigned over the years even as the city modernised keeping pace with the world.

The traffic police are going to feel the real pressure during the peak hours and how they stagger the movement of vehicles to prevent jams is to be seen.

One sure way of managing traffic is to ensure mass transportation of employees and pooling of cars to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads.
