DUBAI — Al Quran and Al Sunnah Foundation of Sharjah won the best centre for teaching the Holy Quran award in the competition organised by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.

At a ceremony held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai on Sunday evening, Ibrahim Bu Melha, the chairman of DIHQA and Dr Saeed Hareb, Vice-Chairman, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Bilal Ahmad Khalfah from the Al Quran and Al Sunnah Foundation was judged the winner for memorising the whole Holy Quran, 30 chapters division and awarded Dh30,000. Muawia Abdul Rahman, from Manar Al Eman School in Ajman won the second place for the same division and was awarded Dh25,000; while Sayed Ataurahman from Shaikh Maktoum Project for Memorising the Holy Quran in Dubai won the third prize and was awarded Dh20,000.

Winners of the second division of the competition, who memorised 20 chapters were: Mahmoud Mohammed Ali Saleh who was awarded Dh20,000, Aiman Mohammed Abdul Hamid, awarded Dh15,000 and Ibrham Abdul Kareem Al Bloush who was given Dh10,000. Winners of the Third Division, 10 chapters were: Ibrahim Al Kaswani who was awarded Dh10,000, Abbas Abdul Noor, given Dh7,500 and Mohammed Mousa Saeed, the third place winner, awarded Dh5,000. Winners of the fourth division of the award, which was limited to nationals were: Saif Sultan who was awarded Dh5,000, Ahmad Ali Al Marzouqi, awarded Dh4,000 and Abdul Aziz Al Hosani given Dh3,000.

During the ceremony, members of the judging panel and the rest of the 38 male contestants were also awarded. While congratulating the winners, Bu Melha said that those who memorised the Holy Quran were God's special people who were granted His Grace. "The Holy Quran is God's everlasting book and it is being memorised and kept in the minds and hearts of these people and their successors until the Domes Day," he said. The contest in its seventh round this year witnessed strong competition, as the memorisation levels were very high.

The award ceremony for women winners will be held tomorrow under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The competition is open to national and expatriate men, below the age of 21 whereas for women it is open to all age groups.
