The female passenger, whose name and age has not yet been identified, passed away on flight EY151, while reportedly suffering from health issues.
Khaleej Times contacted Etihad Airways for a statement. The airline responded stating that the flight was diverted to Moscow and medical teams attempted to revive the passenger.
"Etihad Airways flight EY151 from Abu Dhabi to Chicago was diverted to Moscow today (30 March 2016) due to a medical emergency involving a female guest, who passed away despite attempts by medical teams to revive her."
"Etihad Airways offers its deepest condolences to the family of the guest."
The national airline of UAE noted that it would insure all remaining passengers are placed on the earliest possible flights to Chicago, the original destination prior to the incident.
"The flight is expected to depart from Moscow at 11:15 (local time) and to land in Chicago at 13:35 (local time)."
"All affected guests are being rebooked where necessary on the earliest flights out of Chicago to their final destination."
