Al Dossari said recently that the RTA had obtained approval of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for installing power transformers to provide the AC bus shelters with electricity.

The DEWA had approved the transformers at 30 sites so far and approval for the rest of the sites would be obtained once the installation was over.

He added that this step came within the Bus Master Plan, which was part of the strategic initiatives of the RTA to provide better services and amenities to commuters.

Al Dossari said the design of the AC bus shelters was inspired by the form of Crescent and the shelters would be painted in a modern metallic colour.

They would have an advanced air conditioning system and special designs for advertising and information space, the technology for which was being used for the first time in the UAE and the region.

These shelters would have ATMs, vending machines, garbage recycling containers and other facilities.
