Work on Rashidiya Metro Station Nears Completion

The Dh699 million project comprises construction of directional ramps at the intersection of Emirates Road and Al Khawaneej Road, in addition to two bridges with a total length of 2.5 km across Al Khawaneej Road. They will ease the inbound and outbound traffic flow in the parking lot, said Mattar Al Tayer, the Chairman of the board and Executive Director of the RTA.

The car park, which will have a capacity for 2,700 vehicles is also nearing completion with 85 per cent of the work completed, said Al Tayer.

The construction of the Rashidiya depot is almost over in addition to the Rashidiya Station, which is 80 percent complete, the top official said.

The Rashidiya Station is a part of the Red Line of the Dubai Metro which will commence operations from September 9 this year.

The Station extends 130 metres in length and 30 metres in width and has a capacity to handle 11,000 passengers per hour in each direction.

The Station has two gateways fitted with escalators and lifts to ease the entry and exit of passengers.

The ground floor of the park facility at the station is designated for public buses which will provide feeder service to the Station.

The parking building is linked with bridges leading to the Metro Station. The distance between the two will be only a 3-minute walk.

The Rashidiya Depot also comprises a parking area for train coaches with a capacity to house 64 trains.

The Depot includes the Rail Operations Control Center enabling full control of the daily operation of the metro service on both the Red and
Green Lines.

It also provides control, supervision and monitoring of rail traffic and systems by supervising the functionality of the communication systems, electrical transformers, and the electric supply system for trains and metro stations, Al Tayer said.

The Center provides communication channels with rail commuters in the event of emergency through the communication systems on board the coaches and in the Control Room.

All the Dubai Metro trains will be operated in an integrated electronic system enabling enhanced control and accurate timing of trip schedules.

Each station has the facility of private and public parking. The total length of the Red and Green Lines is about 75 km; 52 km for the Red Line and 23 km for the Green Line.

There will be 47 stations in both lines; 29 stations along the Red Line and 18 stations along the Green Line.
