Work set to start on UAEU’s new campus

AL AIN —The UAE University (UAEU) will start work on the first phase of its new university campus in Al Maqam Complex next year. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.

Mohammed Al Owein, Director of Campus Development Department at the UAEU said that the project has four phases with work on the first and second stages beginning in 2006 and ending in mid-2008 and the third and fourth phases being completed by mid-2010.

The aim of the project is to have one big campus in one place, but it will also with observe local traditions where there will be separate campuses for males and females.

Presently, the UAEU has several campuses with the female campus in Al Maqam and the one for male students in Al Jimmi.

"A number of the existing campuses are not suitable for modern educational requirements and hence the need of a new, more modern campus ," said Al Owein.

He said that the new campus would take the UAEU into the 21st Century. Khodor Dimassi, Director of UAEU Media Relations, said that the new campus would boost UAEU’s image and improve student life.
