Worker Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charge

DUBAI - A Bangladeshi worker pleaded not guilty at the Criminal Court of First Instance, on Monday, to the charge of murdering a Saudi national.

The 20-year-old defendant is accused of stabbing the victim to death in an apartment in the British cluster at the International City on August 21.

He allegedly committed the murder to steal the victim’s belongings which included a wallet with 14 credit cards, a camera, a mobile phone and a razor. The police came to know about the murder two days later when the victim’s friends grew suspicious over his absence and when the victim’s mobile phone was switched off.

They raided the apartment to find the Saudi lying in a pool of blood. Thanks to the evidence taken by the Criminal Evidence Department officials, the police managed to track the perpetrator.

“We found blood belonging to both the defendant and the victim in the victim’s apartment,” officials said.

“We knew that the murderer was hurt when he committed the crime,” a police officer stated during the interrogations. The suspect used to work in a supermarket near the crime scene. When the police raided his place at the International City, they found blood stains on his shoes and socks. He broke into tears when confronted by the CID officials at about 2am on August 23. He alleged that the victim had tried to sexually abuse him and in self defence, the accused killed the Saudi. He then stole his belongings.

The suspect told the interrogators that he had met the victim two weeks prior to the incident. He used to clean the apartment. One day, the victim allegedly hit on him and tried to abuse him. According to the accused, he rushed to the kitchen and brought back a knife.

The victim snatched the knife from the defendant who got hurt during the scuffle.
