'Workforce mobility in region has increased'

DUBAI — The end of employment ban rule and the easing of other labour regulations in the UAE has increased workforce mobility in the region, according to a labour market expert.

"During the present period of high oil prices which fuelled economic boom accompanied by the relaxed laws covering employees, professional services are in greater demand and the Middle East has access to the world's finest skilled workforce like never before," said Karel Zeman, CEO of Dubai Airport Free Zone-based GO-Gulf.com, which recently launched GO-Jobs (www.go-jobs.com), the international online jobs web site.

These changes are revolutionising the recruitment industry and the advantage of online placements is that job seekers and employers move quicker and across international boundaries, he said.

The employers can register at the web site and browse through the resumes database for free. International job seekers can use online resume builder to build their resumes and also browse through positions from various sectors across the world and post their resumes for free.

"Our experience demonstrates that most often, employees seeking opportunities in the UAE are particularly web savvy. Such job web sites have internationalised the recruitment process over the past five years," Zeman said.

The future of jobs is international job portal where candidates meet employers around the world and it is important that these portals avoid being a simple recruitment agency, Zeman said, adding that Go-jobs has around 3,000 visits per month with job offers from various types of companies, Internet services, bank services, relocation services and couriers.

"We started with posting job offers from the UAE but we are now receiving job offers from companies in the Indian subcontinent, Asia, the US and Europe," he said.

The main source of revenue is the advertisements posted on the job site while companies seeking employees are charged a nominal amount, Zeman explained.

GO-Gears is the new portal to be launched soon by GO-Gulf that would cater to cars, airplanes and boats, he disclosed.
