During the workshop various lectures highlighting the advantages of early intervention and the main advanced concepts in the special needs field were delivered by Dr Ron Saimenson, Professor in Psychology from Carolina University in America and Dr Mohamed Abdul Salam Al Banna, Rehabilitation Consultant in the Ministry of Social Affairs in Egypt. The workshop concludes tomorrow, August 31.

Dr Saimenson highlighted the main objectives and advantages resulting from early intervention, saying: “Ninety per cent of children disability is mainly resulting from environmental factors. A special child’s needs, potential and abilities are no lesser than those of his or her normal counter parts but what differs is that a special needs person needs more time to develop his personality. Early intervention will improve the health condition of the special needs children. These special needs children have full rights to education as their normal counterparts, according to UN treaty signed in 1989.” The vital role of the family of special needs children, ways of identifying special needs children and determining the desired method of intervention either medically or socially were elaborated in the lecture.
