Technology should be used for development, not destruction, says Modi
The wide adoption of technology has "altered the life of humans" for the better, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the World Government Summit.
Modi, who was giving the inaugural address of the guest country, touched on many points during his speech, including the use of technology, India's achievements in the space industry and renewable energy.

He also said technology should not be used for "destructive" purposes and should instead be used to improve human lives.
"In my opinion, the biggest responsibility of the government is that technology is used for the common man as it brings great accessibility. Man fashions the tools of progress sometimes into instruments of destruction. The misuse of cyberspace for radicalization is one example of this," Modi said.
"Despite all the progress achieved, poverty and malnutrition has not vanished from the face of the earth.  At the same time, a vast amount of money and resources have been spent to increase the deadliness of missiles and bombs. We have to stay alert to use technology for progression and not for destruction. Sometimes it seems man is making the cardinal mistake of taking technology to enter nature with conflict. For the future of mankind, we need to travel on the road to coexistence and not conflict. India has shown coexistence with nature and for healthy living through a whole system, such as yoga." sarwat@khaleejtimes.com
