The agreement to design and install seven chandeliers in the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque was signed on Sunday by the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture in Abu Dhabi and the German company Faustig, which specialises in chandeliers.

The agreement follows last week’s agreement with an Iranian firm to make “the largest carpet in the world” for the mosque.

The deal involves the design and manufacture of the main dome’s chandeliers which will be 10 metres in diameter and 15 metres in height.

The chandeliers will weigh 9.5 tonnes.

The company will also design and manufacture six other chandeliers, two of which will be seven metres in diameter and 12 metres in height, three will be 3.5 metres in diameter and 5.5 metres in height. The eight will be 4.3 metres in diameter and 6.5 metres in height.
