Year’s First Baby Born in Dubai Two Minutes Past Midnight

DUBAI — New Year’s day proved to be memorable for some parents here. The first baby of 2009 was a boy born to a UAE national family at Dubai Hospital at 12.02am.

“This is our second child and we have named him Hamdan. We have an older child, a girl named Sara,” said the proud father Abdul Rahman Mohammed.

Hamdan weighed 3.6kg at birth and was delivered normally.

Following Hamdan was another baby boy, born to a Syrian couple at 1.03am, at Al Wasl Hospital.

“We have not named the baby yet and he is still in the incubator,” says the father Bashar Rashil. Born through Caesarian section, the baby weighed 2.15kg.

The last baby of 2008 was born just two minutes before the midnight hour to an Indian couple.

The first baby for the overjoyed couple has been named Saif and weighed 2.8kg.

“He was born at Al Wasl Hospital and the mother and baby are doing fine,” said the father, Naseer, saying he was still marvelling at God’s miracle.

At Dubai Hospital, the last baby of 2008 was a baby girl born at 11.46pm.

The Yemeni couple proudly welcomed their third daughter who weighed 3.3kg.

“We are very happy with the birth of our third child,” said the proud father, Arif Munassar and his wife.
