Dubai-based airline Emirates today denied reports that the carrier was planning to launch domestic flights in Pakistan.

Reacting to a news report in a Pakistan-based website Pakistan Today, the airline said there was no truth in the report.

"It has been misquoted," the company said in a statement over email.

Pakistan Today, quoting an interview with Jabr Al Azeeby, Country Manager Pakistan Emirates Airline, today said that "there are talks on a government to government level and as soon as we get the go ahead, Emirates will start serving Pakistan's domestic air passengers".

Syed Ishaq Hussain, PIA general manager in Dubai, said he has sent the news to the airline's head office in Karachi for clarification.

"I'm not in a position to confirm and deny the news," Hussain told Khaleej Times.

To a question, he said domestic service can only be started in either country if it is already a part of bilateral agreement between the two countries.

Emirates was started in March 1985 with Pakistan International Airlines providing two aircraft on wet-lease.
