ASQ award winners to be named by September 9

The American Society for Quality, in partnership with the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, will announce the Quality Professional Award winners on September 9 - a first-of-its-kind award - that recognises excellent contributions among quality professionals in the UAE.
The ceremony will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of International Cooperation and Development, in Dubai.The award celebrates outstanding efforts and contributions from quality professionals working in all sectors of the UAE economy, and is based on the principles of fairness, transparency, objectivity, independence with high standards and performance.
"Quality in the UAE has long been a driver of our economic success," said Shaikha Lubna. "This national award recognises those who are passionate about quality, work to increase efficiencies, and enhance product and service quality."
"Dubai created a template for the pursuit of Quality and Excellence in the UAE with the launch of the Dubai Quality Award two decades ago," said Sami Al Qamzi, director general, DED. "The Department of Economic Development is keen to build on that crucial step and enable organizations and enterprises in the UAE to compare their quality standards with the best in the world."
Sunil Thawani, incoming member of ASQ's Board of Directors, and ASQ Country Counselor-UAE, said the award - the first-ever established outside of the Americas by the ASQ Board of Directors - celebrates the "sustained commitment of visionary leaders of UAE, to quality and excellence and the UAE's 20 years of journey towards excellence. It is in line with UAE's efforts to enhance quality and excellence in all sectors of the economy."
Review of the applicants was conducted by a jury comprising Thawani, Shawqi Hamdan Sajwani, a jury member in Dubai Government Excellence Programme, and Graham (Joe) Clayton, a renowned quality professional with experience in large private and government operations in the UAE over the last 30 years.
