Saying that the sales result is proof that Ducab has made "phenomenal progress" this year, Walter Bailey, the company's managing director, stressed: "We have crossed the psychological Dh1 billion barrier and are now eager to embrace new challenges."

He added: "The performance is all the more significant given the increasing competition in the geographical markets in which the company operates."

Established in 1979, Ducab was the country's first purpose-built cable manufacturing company and is equally owned by both governments of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Its products are high-voltage cable of up to 132kV, medium voltage cables (up to 33kV), low-voltage power cables, and control and auxiliary, wiring and lead-sheltered cables, among others.

In January, Ducab announced an expansion plan at the cost of Dh660 million. It has embarked on various developments over the last 10 years including the opening of a new factory in Abu Dhabi in 2005 and another facility in Jebel Ali last year, and the manufacture of medium-voltage cables in 1998.

Bailey said the company has been an active participant to the economic development activities in the UAE and the whole Middle East region, stressing that Ducab's business strategies have consistently generated solid growth.
