Today, the country's non-oil sector accounts for about 74 per cent of the total GDP
AMEInfo.com, the Middle East's premier on-line business resource, has joined forces with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organiser of Gitex Dubai 2003, to provide up-to-the-minute IT and business news for the event.
Commenting on the deal, DWTC Director-General, Mubarak bin Fahad, said: "Gitex 2003 is the biggest event ever in its 23-year history, so it's never been more important to keep up with the show news. AMEInfo's unique 'Watchlist' service means that show visitors and exhibitors can choose only the news they require rather than being inundated with a surfeit of news."
"For the first time, we are providing broadband video powered by AMEinfo's technology on our Gitex.com site, which will provide interviews and customer testimonials through out the event, on to the site," bin Fahad observed.
Klaus Lovgreen, cief executive officer of AMEInfo, said: "The organisers of Gitex 2003 see great value in our 'Watchlist' service, which allows registered users to receive news only from organisations they are interested in. This gives them more time to focus on doing business."
Lovgreen added that the organisers would also be taking advantage of AMEInfo's unique broadband content provision. "The Gitex.com website will feature broadband interviews with exhibitors, trade visitors, and senior trade centre officials," said the CEO. The DWTC will also be able to utilise AMEInfo's unique broadband content provision. "The Gitex.com website will feature broadband interviews with exhibitors, trade visitors, and senior trade centre officials," said Klaus Lovgreen, cief executive officer, AMEInfo.
AMEInfo currently receives millions of hits per month, and the Gitex.com site receives five million hits per year. "Together we have created a very powerful platform for communication," bin Fahad added.
AMEinfo.com visitors will also have easy access to a dedicated Gitex news micro-site. While the main exhibition is focused largely on trade professionals, consumers looking to buy computer equipment and electronic gadgetry visit Computer Shopper, this year taking place at Airport Expo Dubai from October 18 Ð 24.
AMEInfo more than trebled its number of users and information downloads last year to reach 1.5 million page views per month with 1.3 million users. The site's international profile is now being boosted by a doubling of its global advertising exposure on CNN.
AMEInfo's audited results show users from Saudi Arabia are the site's most prolific audience accounting for 16 per cent of traffic. The UAE users are in second place, making up 14 per cent, and Egypt third with 12 per cent. The majority - 81 per cent of users - are male, with 33 per cent in executive or senior management posts and almost two thirds are aged between 30 and 50.
