Etihad Airways won a temporary extension from a German court for code-sharing with airberlin that was set to expire on Sunday amid a government dispute over aviation rights.
The administrative court in Braunschweig allowed the partners to continue their accord, which enables them to sell seats on each other's flights on some routes, until November 8, Wolfgang Bartsch, a court spokesman, said by phone on Friday.
Earlier, Etihad Airways, the largest shareholder of airberlin, said that it had applied for an injunction in a German court to protect its code-share flights with airberlin.
"The launch of legal action is also designed to help protect the German carrier's 8,000 employees and provide passengers with clarity and confidence," the airline said in a statement.
Etihad Airways said it couldn't wait any longer for the German government to make a decision on whether or not to approve Etihad's code-share on airberlin flights to 29 destinations in Europe, the US and the UAE and on which passengers have booked more than 82,000 journeys.
These flights cover the winter 2015/16 schedule, which is due to begin in just two days and covers the five months from October 25 until March 31, 2016, it said.
