Pakistan-UAE relations are time-tested, and their cordiality has been exemplary. During the last 46 years since its independence, the UAE has been instrumental in acting as an active partner in Pakistan's economic development. Pakistan, likewise, has assisted the young nation with its expertise in the fields of banking, finance and last but not the least aviation.
In an interview with Khaleej Times, Dr. S. Qaiser Anis, President Pakistan Business Professional Council, Abu Dhabi, said that the Council has played an important role in cementing relations between various trade bodies and business organisations, as well as the corporate and public-private sectors, between the two countries.
Dr. Anis felicitated the UAE leadership on the 46th National Day and remarked that the development of UAE under the dynamic leadership of The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has been unprecedented. "Their vision has made the UAE a role model for the region and the world," he added.
The president said that while the UAE is home to more than a million Pakistani expatriates, the PBPC has harnessed a strategy to act as an apt coordinator for the welfare and development of the business community.
"The PBPC's mandate is to provide a forum for its members to build business relations, benefit from the developmental policies, and foster business ties with other councils in the region. Its objective is to promote development of commerce, investment and goodwill between the two countries," Dr Anis elucidated.
The trade ties have expanded in the last few decades due to the respective government's policies to enhance the business climate and open up the public sector enterprises, in order to increase foreign and domestic private investment.
The PBPC, Abu Dhabi, has more than 200 Professionals and Corporate members, and continues to grow. These members keep on meeting occasionally and have an opportunity to exhibit their talent and expertise with more than 30 business councils in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, various events and initiatives help the members further their relations professionally and personally.
Likewise, membership is offered at different levels to suit the organisation's needs and requirements. PBPC Abu Dhabi's vision is to establish trade relations with other countries to further international economic ventures. It is also in close contact with several Pakistani associations and ?trade bodies.
PBPC Abu Dhabi is also closely working with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Khalifa Port; Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange and Masdar, as well as other government bodies to boost bilateral trade prospects. This comes as a great help for Pakistani investors and companies to interact with their counterparts in the UAE.
"The UAE has generously contributed towards Pakistan's welfare by participating in many humanitarian assistance schemes, and also in the health and education sectors. While the UAE is the regional hub for investment, technology and tourism, the PBPC Abu Dhabi's endeavour is to streamline institutional coordination for a better tomorrow," the PBPC president observed.
The PBPC recently hosted a delegation from UK Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UKPCCI) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with it.
