The gardens of the Khaleej Times building were transformed into a festive fairground with Emirati dancers performing traditional dances such as the yola, henna artists, and Arabic tents serving local delicacies like luqmiat and Gahwa coffee. The event was meant to celebrate the union of the United Arab Emirates and expose the expatriates in the workforce to traditional Emirati culture.
Galadari Group CEO Khaled Soliman commented that the event was celebrated by the group befitting the occasion. “The Galadari Brothers Group always feels the honorary responsibility to join the nation in every significant event such as this. The Spirit of the Union and sense of purpose that binds people from different nationalities is definitely a cause for celebration by Emiratis and expats alike and is enjoyed with much fervour. We strongly encourage all our business units to take part and celebrate the occasion in their own unique ways,” Soliman added.
Galadari Ice Cream Co. (GICC), a subsidiary of the group, commemorated the Spirit of the Union with the cutting of a huge five-foot-wide Baskin Robbins (BR) ice cream cake adorned with the national colours at a grand ceremony at Global Village on December 2. Spread across Global Village were hundreds of BR beach balls, with joyous and excited young children waiting to grab hold of one. Also spreading the cheer and good wishes of the occasion was the BR mascot, the Snowman, rallying the crowds toward a tasty treat.
The energetic BR team of stewards served the cake to the delighted crowd. It was a special joy for the children as they not only were able to partake of the scrumptious cake but also took home a beach ball. Galadari Brothers Group is one of the prominent business groups in the UAE tracing its birth back to 1961. The group’s dynamism, innovation and pioneering efforts have been responsible for bringing some of the largest brands in the UAE to include Komatsu, JCB, Baskin Robbins, Mazda and Khaleej Times. The group also owns the Radisson Blu Dubai Deira Creek property.
Celebrating a National Day is by no means a small feat, especially when you do it at the gargantuan, multi-faceted Global Village.
Set against the backdrop of the Global Village’s first raffle draw for a sports car and a brilliant fireworks display, the VIP area became the stage for a grand spectacle. The massive five-foot-wide Baskin Robbins ice cream cake, adorned with the national colours, emerged in scrumptious glory much to the delight of visitors and on-lookers. Spread across the ground were hundreds of Baskin Robbins beach balls, with joyous and excited young children waiting to grab hold of one. Also spreading the cheer and good wishes of the occasion was the favourite brand mascot, the Snowman, rallying the crowds toward a tasty treat.
Just as the raffle winner was announced, the beach balls took to the air and thus began the cake cutting ceremony. The energetic Baskin Robbins team of stewards delighted nearly 800 visitors, happily slicing the cake and serving at a frenetic pace. It was a special joy for children as they not only munched into the mouth-watering cake, but also got a beach ball to take back home.
Manoj Loya, General Manager of GICC, emphasised the significance of the event by saying: “Global Village dons great significance at this time of the year. The UAE National Day is the country’s most joyous and important national occasion. Put both together, we have the perfect platform to demonstrate our joy, pride and honour to participate in the celebrations. We especially designed and created a large cake for this occasion, lovingly and earnestly put together by our dedicated team. In the end, we got to celebrate this momentous occasion and put a smile on hundreds of faces.” GICC is proud to have organised the esteemed event and celebrated the UAE National Day in style.
GICC is a flagship company in Galadari Brothers Group. GICC is the master franchisee for the Baskin Robbins brand in the GCC and is the world’s largest franchisee for Baskin Robbins with over 500 stores spread across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait. GICC has been the first company to introduce an international brand of ice cream in the region and has the largest store network in the Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) industry in the Gulf region.
