Higher committee for Dubai smart city project

Dubai Smart City project will help complete the daily applications and activities swiftly, rendering people’s life much easier.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has assigned Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to oversee the implementation of the project to transform Dubai into a smart city.

Shaikh Mohammed ordered to constitute a higher committee for such a project under the chairmanship of Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Head of the Shaikh Mohammed’s Executive Office. The committee is to have nine other members representing the public and private sector.

Shaikh Hamdan said: “Dubai is now seeing development booms accompanied by high ambitions and vast opportunities for ensuring the wellbeing of everyone residing in the UAE. He emphasised Shaikh Mohammed’s keenness to empower Emiratis, particularly the young people, in all fields by providing them with opportunities and trusting their capabilities to be key partners in the march of development.

Shaikh Hamdan pointed out that the Dubai Smart City project will be unique in terms of implementation because it includes the largest partnership of its kind between Dubai’s public and private sector. The reason behind such a partnership, he said was due to services rendered to citizens, residents and visitors not simply being restricted to government departments, but also airline companies, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, banks and other service providing bodies.

“To carry out the project and enhance quality of life in Dubai, cooperation will be required between the public and private sector,” he said, adding that the project will help complete the daily applications and activities swiftly, rendering people’s life much easier.

The Higher Committee board members, chaired by Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, includes Sami Dahen Al Qamzi, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development, Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief Commander of Dubai Police, Ahmad bin Humaidan, Director-General of Dubai e-Government, Hilal Al Merri, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council, Ahmad bin Bayat, Chairman of Du, Awad bin Hader Al Muhairi, Ahmad Julfar, CEO of etisalat, and Dr Amina Al Rostamani, CEO of Tecom Investments.
